Be Afraid, Joe, Be Very Afraid - Peters Raises $570,000 in 2nd Quarter

Gary Peters ' fundraising kicked into high gear in the 2nd quarter, raising $570,000. Nancy Skinner only raised $420,000 for the entire 2006 race and came within a few points of beating Joe Knollenberg. This year with enthusiasm high for the top of the ticket, and a lack of enthusiasm for John McCain, this race is looking very promising for Peters.

Now here's what I'm talking about. Gary Peters' campaign is showing real commitment to the people of his district with his plan to take his campaign off the campaign trail every weekend from now until election day and do some public service. That's the kind of person I want representing me in Congress.

Joe has joined the Really Silly Republican Caucus

Joe Knollenberg has signed on to an amendment that would ban initiatives that prohibit the use of certain words to describe terrorists. Pete Hoekstra offered an amendment and Joe voted in favor of it, for initiatives that ban the use of the words "islamist" and "jihadist".

I think if we spent more time actually fighting the root causes of terrorism that we might actually be more effective than offering amendments that literally fight words, not terrorists.

"Spokesmen for McCotter and Knollenberg said while they are aware Muslims find the words objectionable, they believe intelligence officials must be free to describe events as they see them."
