Bruce finally gets to confront Joe

Well, I finally got to confront Joe Knollenberg about his votes on the war in Iraq and against SCHIP. Trent Wisecup, Joe's chief of staff got pretty heated. Watch for yourself.

Joe Knollenberg's constituents want Joe to end the war

On Saturday in Troy, about 50 protesters gathered and got great support and lots of honks of approval to end the war in Iraq and tried to convince Joe Knollenberg to end the war.

Joe has government provided health care, why not the children?

Joe Knollenberg gets free health care provided by the taxpayers of the country. Why won't he vote to provide it to our most vulnerable citizens, our children?

Wow, Mike and Joe just don't get it

The League of Conservation Voters didn't just choose Joe Knollenberg as one of their Dirty Dozen because they felt like. They did study his voting record. Here's what they said about Joe's voting record, Mike.

Dirty Dozen Member # 2: Representative Joe Knollenberg

The second person added to the Dirty Dozen today is Representative Joe Knollenberg (R-MI). While Rep. Knollenberg calls himself an environmentalist saying that “protecting, preserving, and providing for the health of our environment is one of his top priorities,”
his record paints a much different picture. Rep. Knollenberg has repeatedly voted for corporate polluters and against environmental protections, earning him a lifetime LCV score of only 7 percent. Rep. Knollenberg has strongly opposed all attempts to raise fuel economy standards for cars and trucks. In 1998 and 1999, Knollenberg attached a rider known as 'the Knollenberg amendment' to congressional budget appropriation bills to prevent government agencies from doing anything that would regulate global warming pollution, including forbidding the EPA from holding educational seminars about global warming. In August 2007, he voted against a provision that would increase the amount of renewable energy produced in the United States.

“Michigan families need to ask, ‘whose side is Representative Joe Knollenberg really on?’” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “Rep. Knollenberg’s record clearly shows that he votes for policies that reward his corporate contributors rather than supporting clean energy solutions to our energy challenges that would help fight global warming. We want to help inform Rep. Knollenberg’s constituents about his terrible environmental voting record – he can’t hide from it any longer.”

Since 2001, Rep. Knollenberg has taken $642,388 from polluting energy interests. To view Rep. Knollenberg’s recent votes on clean energy and global warming, go to: http://lcv.org/OperationSpotlight/home.html#Knollenberg

Obviously Joe's campaign is running scared, given his terrible approval ratings.

Joe seeks $50 million to teach Mandarin, but votes no on health care

Below is a story I find a little confusing. Joe Knollenberg is willing to sponsor a bill to authorize $50 million to teach Mandarin, but he won't vote to authorize legislation to provide health care to 10 million low income children. Seems like Joe has his priorties all screwed up. We need a representative that has his priorities straight.

U.S. Rep. Knollenberg seeks money to teach Mandarin

U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Bloomfield Hills, introduced a bill today to authorize $50 million for schools to teach Mandarin.

"China is rapidly emerging as America's most serious economic competitor," said Knollenberg, a senior Republican on the House Appropriations Committee. "I believe it's important for our schools to begin offering Mandarin language instruction. My bill provides some seed money to help schools hire Mandarin teachers and put programs in place to accomplish this goal."

To qualify, school districts would have to offer beginning to advanced language classes as well as programs on Chinese history and culture.

In his statement, Knollenberg included support voiced by Dr. Vicki Markavitch, the superintendent of Oakland County Schools.

"We recognize the growing presence of China in the global economy and are working to prepare Oakland County students to compete globally.

"That is why the Oakland Schools Chinese Language and Culture Initiative is introducing both language instruction and social studies curriculum to pre-K through 12th grade students across Oakland County."

I guess I even scooped the Oakland Press on this one.

LCV Names Senator Inhofe and Rep. Knollenberg to 2008 "Dirty Dozen"

WASHINGTON D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced that U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) are the first two members of its 2008 “Dirty Dozen” list. This is the earliest in a campaign cycle LCV has ever named members to the Dirty Dozen.

“America’s energy future was a decisive issue in the last election and poll after poll indicates that energy and global warming will be decisive issues in 2008,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “During the 2006 elections, while 94 percent of incumbents won re-election, we defeated 9 out of 13 members of LCV’s ‘Dirty Dozen’ list. In 2008, we plan to continue our success rate of defeating members of the Dirty Dozen. Senator Inhofe and Representative Knollenberg were named to the Dirty Dozen so early because they are two of the biggest opponents in Congress when it comes to making progress on global warming and clean energy.”

I guess Joe's voting record doesn't quite square with Joe's video.

Joe at the Republican Debate in Dearborn

It was a beautiful day in Dearborn for a protest. All the Republican losers running for President were inside the Dearborn Performing Arts Center. What an appropriate place for Fred Thompson to make his acting debut on the presidential scene. Joe NOllenberg was there too having a great time with all the other protesters.

Protesters of all ages came out to let the Republican candidates know what ought to happen to Vice President Dick Cheney and President Bush.

These guys said they are with the NSA. I wonder if they were pulling my leg.

Joe's column is a waste of ink

Joe Knollenberg got another guest column in the Oakland Press this morning. Did he take the opportunity to explain his vote not to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program? No! Did he use the space to announce legislation to help the middle class that has been decimated by Republican fiscal policy? No!

Instead he wastes ink to commend an elementary school for exemplary performance which he had nothing to do with. I assume he wants us to think something he did had something to do with the success of the school. The reality is that Republican policies are adversely affecting our public schools and making it harder to educate our children.

Joe fears nothing more than an informed electorate. If we all pay attention to Joe Knollenberg's votes and policies we will recognize Joe Knollenberg is in favor of the policies of the worst presidency in the history of America. November 2008 is our opportunity to show Joe Knollenberg the door.

We have real problems in this country and Joe Knollenberg isn't offering solutions to any of them.

Joe Knollenberg Loves George W. Bush

This video of Joe Knollenberg and his undying love for George W. Bush says it all. Joe thinks George W. Bush and his policies are just great. What do you think? Is Joe's judgement good enough to be our Congressman? I think not.
