Armenia or America?

Joe Knollenberg is proud of his service to Armenia. Yes, Armenia not America. If you are unaware of where that is located don't worry so is everyone else not from Armenia. But Armenia is a country wedged between many of our closest allies like Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

On Congressman Knollenberg's website he gushes with pride for what he has done for Armenia.

"I am committed to strengthening the relationship between the United States and
Armenia .

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, I help lead an organization of Members of Congress who are interested in supporting Armenia , strengthening the ties between our two countries, and affirming the Armenian
Genocide
. I am also able to support Armenia through my position as a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations, which determines the amount of foreign assistance countries receive each year.
In the 108th Congress, I introduced legislation to grant Permanent Normal
Trade Relations
status to Armenia . The bill was signed into law in 2004.

Furthermore, in the 109th Congress, I have introduced H.R. 3361, the South Caucasus Integration and Open Railroads Act of 2005. This legislation would prohibit U.S. funding from going toward the construction of a new railroad in the South Caucasus region that purposely excludes Armenia . It currently has 85 cosponsors."

In fact Congressman Knollenberg is helping America become much more like Armenia. For instance. Congressman Knollenberg opposes raising the minimum wage. This helps America stay much more inline with Armenia where GDP per capita is only $5,400/per Armenian.

Congressman Knollenberg has valiantly fought terrorists the world over, regardless of what anyone thinks. This thinking is mirrored in Armenia, their government says "underlying the very nature of US-Armenian relations was Armenia’s unconditional support for the United States in its campaign against the international terrorism on the wake of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington."

How else can we become like Armenia? Armenia seems to have so much to offer. Well, with Congressman Knollenberg helping to ship American jobs overseas (possibly even to Armenia) Michigan's unemployment rate has jumped to 7.1% almost that of Armenia at 7.6%!

Everyday Joe Knollenberg is helping to turn America into Armenia. So to Armenians or Americans throughout the 9th let's thank Joe Knollenberg for helping everyday Armenians/Americans and Armenian-Americans succeed. Maybe one day we too can even further replicate Armenia - and with Congressman Knollenberg at the helm pretty soon we will be just like Armenia!

Nice job of framing here.

Yeah. Transparently nice. Go ahead. Make fun of Armenians in this district.

That's what this whole post is about. So much for liberals having a lock on multi-culturalism (which itself is a misused and perverted term) and respect for other cultures. This post is just plain xenophobic.

So go ahead and continue with this type of "framing."

Haha!

I'm not making fun of Armenians, nor am I advocating anti-Armenian policies. I am merely showing how Joe Knollenberg does not represent his district in a creative manner, showing that possibly his allegiances lie elsewhere.

I am not being xenophobic, I am not making fun of Armenia, all the facts are true, I do not think it is xenophobic to state facts about Armenia. I am not making fun of Armenia by making anything up, I am not making fun of Armenia at all. But thanks for reading anyhow. Maybe you can join Joe Knollenberg in ensuring Armenia's voice overpowers America's in the 9th district.

First, the post is full of distortions. If Joe is guilty of anything, it's not serving "Armenia" or "Armenians," its serving "Aremian-Americans" here in his distict. His constituents.

Second, you do denigrate the nation of Armenia by suggesting that it is a second-class nation. You do this by saying Joe is turning America into Armenia. Now, whether Armenia is, or isn't equal to America in its standard of living, it's not something that needs to be said in such a disgusting way.

This whole post shows how far you really have to stretch to attack Knollenberg. You point out that he attends to a well-known minority, and then you attack him for attending that minority and suggesting that minority's ancestral home is not as good as America.

Yeah. Your creative. And your "framing" is great. But if you have to stretch this much, you might want to go after someone else.

Oh come on.

Joe doesn't serve any constituents in the 9th District.

He is too busy taking luxurious vacations in Hawaii -- all paid for by lobbyists the ilk of Jack Abramoff.

Or maybe he was too busy making sure his friend got a contract from Amtrak worth $8 million in federal fund that Joe "earmarked" for one of his largest campaign contributors.

Chetly, you are the one stretching things. I think anyone who reads David's diary will understand his point. He isn't attacking or denigrating anyone or anyone's ethnicity.

No one is saying there is anything wrong with what Knollenberg's doing for Armenians or Armenia.

What we are saying is that it is wrong that Knollenberg DOES SO LITTLE!

Oh. I'm so glad you raised the Hawaii issue.

I've done a little bit of research. First though, you have no evidence that "ilks" of "Abrahamoff" paid for the Hawaii trip. Many Congresspeople took that trip, by the way, and it was perfectly within the rules.

However, my research. Let's put Joe Knollenberg in context. The "Sunlight Foundation," run by the liberal Zephyr Teachout (Howard Dean's Internet campaign director), compiles nifty lists and maps of sponsored travel.

Joe's office has taken four "sponsored" trips in the last session, three of which were staff members (different ones, by the way), and only one for Joe himself, for a total of $12,000. Joe is nowhere close to the top-ten, although there is no way to exactly identify where he is in context. On the Hawiaii trip, Barbara Boxer also sent a staffer, as did Richard Durbin, as did a number of other Congresspeople, and it was to attend a conference sponsored by Airport executives on air travel issues. Clearly a bi-partisan attendance.

Hillary Clinton ranks number 7 on the number of trips list with 35 trips (http://www.opensecrets.org/travel/search_results.asp?id=N00000019&memname=Hillary+Clinton+%28D%2DNY%29)
and number three on the total dollar amount ($77,000) list (same sight - navigate it), although much of it for her staff. A recurring sponsor is LOCKHEED MARTIN, something which Democrats should self-scrutinize closely. I assume you are disqualifying Ms. Clinton for President in your mind in light of this information.

John Conyers is also in the top ten in number of trips, above Joe.

The facts are awfully inconvenient on this travel issue. In fact, I encourage you to keep raising it to increase attention on Dem. travel. Or press for some laws banning the practice altogether, now that Dems are in charge.

You assert:

Joe doesn't serve any constituents in the 9th District.

Wrong. I live in the 9th myself. I also know many others that feel served by Joe.

And if you're not saying anything about what Joe does for Armenia Americans, then why don't you not say it, and instead document what you claim he "doesn't do". It seems counter-intuitive to do that by documenting what he does and making fun of that - assuming without evidence he does nothing else.

You seem to have missed the point.

Knollenberg does little if anything as a Member of Congress.

Knollenberg does not represent the collective views of the 9th District.

Knollenberg rarely gives speeches -- on the Floor of the House or to constitutents or others. (Apparently he is rarely asked to speak.) When he does, if you glance through his website, you will see many of them address Armenian issues.

As I said, his support of Armenia and Armenian issues is fine.

What we find objectionable is that he doesn't do anything else. And frankly, what he has done even for Armenians and Armenia isn't exactly staggering.

Knollenberg is a know-nothing and do-nothing Congressman.
