Rochester/Birmingham Eccentric take note of Knollenberg Race
The Knollenberg race and the volume of Letters to the Editor have been noticed by the local media. Today's Rochester and Birmingham Eccentric ran the article below as proof that Joe is concerned about his race in 2008.
Knollenberg Thinks Embryos Belong in an Incinerator
So, by voting against using those leftover embryos for stem cell research -- research that could result in dramatic advances in medical science -- Joe Knollenberg was effectively voting to mandate that those stem cells be incinerated.
Today we know why Joe Knollenberg voted the way he did. Because George Bush told him to vote against the bill. George Bush vetoed the second stem cell research bill this year.
So once again, Joe Knollenberg has voted the way George Bush wanted him to vote.
The only way we will get enough votes to pass a veto proof stem cell law is to put a Representative in Congress who understands the importance of technological advances and supports scientists in their quest for new and exciting discoveries.

What Is Joe Knollenberg Trying to Hide?
"Do Nothing" kNollenberg is notorious for doing favors for lobbyists and campaign donors. Like the time kNOllenberg arranged an $8 million dollar earmark for one of his biggest campaign donors.
But now Joe kNOllenberg is trying to hide something from the public. CNN contacted every member of Congress to find out what "earmarks" they snuck into legislation for FY2008. Joe Knollenberg refused to respond to CNN.
Last year, Congressman like Joe kNOllenberg snuck over $67 billion worth of earmarks into appropriation bills.
Even Republican's are disgusted with kNOllenberg's earmarks. Here is what the ultra conservative Republican Senator Coburn says on his webpage:
For example, Lason Services Inc.’s Beltsville office received a $5.4 million earmark to “make the historical climate record from the mid-1800s available online.” According to OMB Watch, a D.C.-based liberal nonprofit, Lason was awarded two more sole-source contracts totaling $4.7 million for the same purpose in 2006.So there went nearly $10 million down the drain. Joe kNOllenberg has one of the worst records in Congress in terms of how much he wastes on earmarks for his friends.
When we asked who sponsored the Lason earmarks, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s budget and public affairs office couldn’t tell us. Same response from the legislative office of the U.S. Commerce Department, NOAA’s organizational parent. Ditto NOAA’s Climate Data Modernization Project in Asheville, N.C., which was to receive Lason’s work product, and the House Appropriations Committee staff.
Nobody at Lason would talk, either, even though the firm could be considered by some an odd choice to get federal tax dollars. Lason filed for bankruptcy in 2001, and its CEO, COO and CFO were all either convicted or charged with fraudulently inflating company revenues two years later.
Finally, a spokesman for Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Mich., whose congressional district includes Lason’s headquarters in Troy, Mich., admitted the congressman had asked in 2003 that the financially troubled company be allowed to participate in NOAA’s climate history project.
Again, the information above came from a Republican Senator's webpage. This is not Democratic Party information, nor information from some group who opposes kNOllenberg.
And of course, Joe kNollenberg wants to keep wasting tazpayer money.
That is why Joe kNollenberg consistently votes against legislation that would require that he make his earmarks public so we can see how he wastes money. [HRes 6, RollCall #9. See also, HRes 1000, Roll Call #449.]
Call Joe Knollenberg and ask him what earmarks he has put into legislation lately. I bet he won't tell you.
Joe Knollenberg has a reputation for wasting taxpayer money.

Knollenberg's Real Record on the Auto Industry
Joe Knollenberg's voting record shows that he is not only NOT a champion, but he isn't even a supporter of the industry.
- Knollenberg voted YES on NAFTA (Rememberg Ross Perot's prediction that it would create a big sucking sound of our jobs to Mexico?)
- Knollenberg voted YES on CAFTA (so that we could ship jobs to Central America in addition to the ones that have been outsourced to China and India).
- Knollenberg voted YES on a Singapore trade agreement that undermines our industry's ability to compete.
- He has voted to give fast track authority to the President so that he can just sign trade agreements without allowing Congress to amend them (even though amendments would be necessary to help our domestic auto industry).
- Knollenberg supported the interests of the United Auto Workers ONLY 6% of the time in 2004.
None of the bills listed above are even remotely supportive of the Auto Industry. In fact, they hurt the auto industry and white collar and blue collar workers. The only ones who benefited are the CEOs and CFOs who always take care of themselves first. They got millions while you may lose your pension.
Knollenberg has NEVER introduced legislation to directly benefit the auto industry.
His lobbyist is writing letters to the Press now complaining about legislation that could be proposed some day, but Knollenberg has DONE NOTHING. That of course is where he gets his nickname, "Do Nothing" Knollenberg. It is a very fitting nickname.
Joe Knollenberg doesn't represent the interests of Oakland County voters.

Even The Auto Companies Disagree With Knollenberg on CAFE
Knollenberg has been complaining about efforts in Congress to raise corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards for automobiles.
Knollenberg has claimed that adopting new and more stringent CAFE standards will cripple the auto industry.
Knollenberg sent letters to Presidential candidates telling them that raising CAFE could hurt the domestic auto industry.
Knollenberg thinks adopting higher CAFE standards will literally kill people:
CAFE standards will, in fact, impact negatively all classes of vehicles because it forces the automakers to produce vehicles that Americans
don`t necessarily like. Also, it leads to a problem of downsizing vehicles to
meet those CAFE standards, which results in a vehicle that`s more vulnerable,
and thus, potentially contributory to deaths.
And in a bizarre statement that perhaps only he can understand, Knollenberg says that if we had fuel economy standards for cars before we had cars, we wouldn't have cars.
In fact, Knollenberg claims to be so anti-CAFE, the Oakland Press reports that "Knollenberg said his motto is: Alternative Fuels Yes, CAFE No Way."So I believe that the automobile would never have been invented if CAFE were around at the beginning, because it wouldn`t have been able to meet the tests, standards or requirements.
On his own blog he claims to not oppose increasing fuel economy or reducing dependence on foreign oil, but with respect to CAFE, Knollenberg states: "We don't need the job-killing regulation".
Heck he took out an entire new website just to say things like "They want to impose job-killing increases in CAFE standards on our domestic auto industry. This will benefit Toyota and Honda and lead to fewer jobs and declining home values in Michigan and throughout the Great Lakes region."
But Joe Knollenberg is wrong. Even the Auto Industry disagrees with Knollenberg.
Chrysler Supports Increase In CAFE Standard
Chrysler is supporting new legislation to increase CAFE!! The Free Press reports:
LaSorda said Chrysler supports a new proposal by Michigan Sens. Carl Levin
and Debbie Stabenow that would require car companies to meet a new standard of 36 miles per gallon for cars by 2022 and 30 miles per gallon for trucks by 2025 with no exceptions.
So, once again, Joe Knollenberg is wrong.
Just exactly who is Joe Knollenberg representing? He clearly isn't representing the Auto Industry.

Knollenberg is a Failed Congressman
Another Bush/Knollenberg Failure

Once again, the Bush/Knollenberg Administration have failed.
One of the many and varied reasons Bush and Knollenberg gave after they instituted an unprecedented invasion of Iraq was that they wanted to "spread Democracy". Well, just as Bush and Knollenberg have failed at everything else, they have failed here as well.
The headline in the Washington Post said it best: "Takeover by Hamas Illustrates FAILURE of [Knollenberg and] Bush's Mideast Vision."
So now the Palestinians are totally run by the terrorist group, Hamas. Between the chaos in the Gaza strip, the war in Lebanon, and the civil war in Iraq, Bush and Knollenberg have made this the most dangerous period in world history.
Knollenberg and Bush have failed again.
Mark Brewer, Michigan Democratic Party Chair on Joe NOllenberg
Knollenberg: Wrong Again
The Bush/Knollenberg "surge" in troops in Iraq isn't working. The surge is not quelling the violence -- instead the violence is getting worse.
According to the Washington Post:
Three months into the new U.S. military strategy that has sent tens of thousands of
additional troops into Iraq, overall levels of violence in the country have not
decreased, as attacks have shifted away from Baghdad and Anbar, where American forces are concentrated, only to rise in most other provinces, according to a Pentagon report released yesterday.
Obviously Knollenberg's has poor judgment when it comes to American Foreign Policy initiatives.

Knollenberg Opposes Stem Cell Research, but Supports Human Cloning!!!
No, really he did.
See for yourself: H.R. 2560, June 6, 2007, Roll Call Vote #439.
According to CNN, the bill:
makes it illegal to use cloning technology to initiate a pregnancy and create a cloned human being. Violators would be subject to up to 10 years in prison and face fines of up to $10 million. But Joe Knollenberg Voted NO. He voted AGAINST the prohibition!
"The bill bans human reproductive cloning. Nothing more, nothing less," said Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colorado, the bill's sponsor. "It defies logic why anyone would vote against this bill.
So, Knollenberg supports human cloning, but opposes stem cell research!
I know it doesn't make any sense. But that is how he voted last week. Strange but true.
Reminds me of those strange little "Ripley's Believe it or Not" stories.
By opposing stem cell research on excess embryos that were created but not used in fertility treatments, Knollenberg is saying he thinks it is better to just put those embyros in a medical waste incinerator rather than use them to develop life saving medical technologies. Then again, given his vote on cloning, maybe he thinks that the cells should be cloned rather than thrown away...
Joe wants to waste $20 million of YOUR money
I can’t believe what I just read on Joe Knollenberg’s web site. Instead of coming up with a comprehensive energy plan that addresses what scientists agree is a quickening global warming problem, where the world’s glaciers are melting even faster than had previously been thought, Joe wants to waste $20 million of your money on a PR campaign. Joe is missing the big picture. Automakers and Joe want to slowly, very, very, very, slowly increase gas mileage mandated to 36 mpg by 2024, 17 years from now. Apparently Joe thinks that American engineers and auto companies can’t figure out how to get 11 more mpg for 17 years. Joe’s answer to America’s energy problem is $20 million worth of commercials that tell you to “Just go slow.” How ridiculous. What we need is a program on a par with President Kennedy’s program to land a man on the moon by the end of the 1970’s, where large amounts of talent are focused on solving the global warming crisis and as part of that Apollo like program, we challenge America’s carmakers to be part of the solution by coming up with automobiles that get 100 mpg.
Just like his health care plan to give employers a $200 tax credit for setting up health prevention programs, while leaving 47 million Americans without health care coverage, Joe believes in putting bandaids on patients that are bleeding to death when it comes to Americans’ health care system and our energy crisis. This idea reminds me of Nancy Reagan trying to address drug addiction by telling our citizens to “Just say No.”
Joe Knollenberg’s idea is a huge waste of your money. Call Joe at (202) 225-5802 or write Joe Knollenberg today and tell him to stop wasting your money.

Knollenberg Wants to Set Up More Big Government Bureaucracy

Joe Knollenberg keeps looking for more ways to make the government bigger and to add more bureaucracy to our lives.
First he wanted to get the federal government involved in whether and what health seminars your company offered.
Now, according to his website, Knollenberg wants a new bureacracy to address driving habits.
How much more money will Joe Knollenberg waste before he gets the message that we don't want a big, bloated government. We don't want the government in our homes, our backyards, or our cars.
Bush's War Czar Says Knollenberg Is Wrong on the Surge
But Joe Knollenberg continues to support the surge.
Bush's War Czar saidI registered concerns that a military 'surge' would likely have only temporary and localized effects unless it were accompanied by counterpart 'surges' by the Iraqi government and the other, nonmilitary agencies of the U.S. governmentBush & Knollenberg Want to "Stay the Course"
Up until the surge, Bush and Knollenberg kept telling the American people that we would "stand down when the Iraqi's stood up".
Bush and Knollenberg kept telling the American people that our troops were training the Iraqis.
Bush and Knollenberg kept telling the American people to "Stay the Course".
But unless you follow the war very closely, you wouldn't even know that the U.S. is not training Iraqi troops anymore. If we aren't training them, how will they ever stand up? The answer is, they won't.

Joe Knollenberg: Caught in Another Lie
Buried deep in his website, Knollenberg claims:
But earlier this year, Knollenberg voted AGAINST an amendment that would have assured that no troops went to combat without the proper body armor.he is a strong proponent of ensuring that our brave men and women who serve in the Armed Forces have the resources they need to successfully carry out their mission.
Yes. You read that right. Joe Knollenberg voted AGAINST giving our troops the proper body armor. As unbelieveable as it sounds, that is what he did.
If you didn't see it yet, watch this 30 second video about how having the right body armor is a matter of life and death to our troops.

Lobbyist Runs Dishonest PR Blitz for Knollenberg

We've already given examples of the type of sleazy work Wisecup has done like lobbying AGAINST seniors being able to get less expensive medicine from Canada. Here are some links to Wisecup's work:
- Here is the one where Knollenberg's Chief of Staff LIES About Generic Drugs.
- Here is the one where Knollenberg's Chief of Staff LIESAbout Importing Drugs.
- Here is another one where Knollenberg's Chief of Staff LIES About Importing Drugs.
- Here is yet another one where Knollenberg's Chief of Staff LIES About Importing Drugs.
See, they are all lies. Availability of generic drugs are not preventing anyone from obtaining brand name drugs. It is the outrageous prices that prevent people from buying brand name drugs. And the argument about the "danger" of importing medicine is funny because most of our medicine IS imported.Very little is made on this continent.
Now, as Knollenberg's Chief Lobbyist, Wisecup is putting out similar glossy materials (at taxpayer expense) and writing letters to editors trying to cover up Knollenberg's abysmal record for the past 14 years. Knollenberg has published more letters to the editor this year than he did in the previous 14 years!
But perhaps Knollenberg would be better off investing in a proofreader:
Knollenberg Supports Human Cloning
No, really he did. See for yourself: H.R. 2560, June 6, 2007, Roll Call Vote #439.
According to CNN, the bill:
makes it illegal to use cloning technology to initiate a pregnancy and create a cloned human being. Violators would be subject to up to 10 years in prison and face fines of up to $10 million.Joe Knollenberg voted AGAINST a BAN on human CLONING!
"The bill bans human reproductive cloning. Nothing more, nothing less," said Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colorado, the bill's sponsor. "It defies logic why anyone would vote against this bill.
So, in summary, Joe Knollenberg thinks embryos should be put in medical waste incinerators but that cloning is okay.

Joe Knollenberg Thinks Embryos Should be Incinerated
Fortunately, S.5, The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, passed the house in spite of Knollenberg's vote.
The bill would allow for researchers to use embryonic stem cells from embryos that had been donated to in vitro fertilization clinics for fertility treatment, but weren't used and were going to be discarded anyway.
Here is the official summary of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007:
Amends the Public Health Service Act to require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct and support research that utilizes human embryonic stem cells, regardless of the date on which the stem cells were derived from a human embryo.
Limits such research to stem cells that meet the following ethical requirements:
(1) the stem cells were derived from human embryos donated from in vitro fertilization clinics for the purpose of fertility treatment and were in excess of the needs of the individuals seeking such treatment;
(2) the embryos would never be implanted in a woman and would otherwise be discarded; and
(3) such individuals donate the embryos with written informed consent and receive no financial or other inducements.
So, according to Joe Knollenberg, it is better to send the embryo to a medical waste incinerator rather than use it to advance medical treatments.
Joe Knollenberg is too extreme for Oakland County.
Knollenberg Votes For Human Cloning

How is the weather down there Joe?
When Bush wants more money, even thought it will result in increasing our national debt, Knollenberg votes Yes.
When Bush wants more money to keep troops in Iraq in the middle of an unwinnable civil war, Joe Knollenberg votes Yes.
When Bush wants to cut funds for veterans, Joe Knollenberg votes Yes.
When Bush wants to cut funds for education, Joe Knollenberg votes Yes.
When Bush wants to cut funds for Seniors, Joe Knollenberg votes Yes.
When Bush wants trade agreements that result in shipping our jobs overseas, Joe Knollenberg votes Yes.
Unfortunately for Joe Knollenberg, George Bush has turned out to be the worst President in the history of the Country. And the public knows it.
Fortunately for us, Bush's record low approval ratings are a good reflection of Joe Knollenberg's approval ratings as well. Just take a look at this chart from z-facts:

Joe, Meet Franked
Joe Knollenberg continues to send out campaign brochures while charging the costs of preparing, printing, and mailing to taxpayers!!
Here is his latest mailing. Judge for yourself:

The purpose of the "franking" privilege is to provide members of Congress with a means of communicating important information to their constitutents. Does this mailing have anything important in it?
Campaign literature on the other hand, promotes the candidate.
What do you think this latest mailing is? Useful information that should be sent out using taxpayer money or a campaign brochure?
As we have mentioned numerous times before, Joe Knollenberg's Chief of Staff, Trent Wisecup is a Washington, D.C. LOBBYIST. Take a look at the sleazy ad campaign Wisecup ran that was AGAINST allowing seniors to save money by buying imported medicine.
Availability of generic drugs are not preventing anyone from obtaining brand name drugs. It is the outrageous prices that prevent people from buying brand name drugs.
And the argument about the "danger" of importing medicine is funny because most of our medicine IS imported.
Very little is made on this continent. You should be worried if you order medicine from China, but then again you should be worried if the toothpaste you bought was made there too.
But medicine made in or sold in England, Germany, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, etc. all have to meet minimum safety standards. Given the incompetence of the BUSH/KNOLLENBERG administration, the programs in those countries are probably better than what the FDA is doing.
But more importantly, notice how these campaign materials look a lot like Joe Knollenberg's mailings? Glossy, but wrong.
How can you trust a guy who hires a lobbyist for a Chief of Staff.
Once again, this just shows that Joe Knollenberg lacks the judgment necessary to represent the voters of Oakland County.

Bush & Knollenberg Reinstate the Cold War
It seems that Joe Knollenberg's rubber stamp of George Bush has led to a new crisis -- the second coming of the Cold War.
Valdimir Putin thinks Bush and Knollenberg want to restart the arms race.
Bush decided he didn't want to be held to the ABM Treaty, so he decided to ignore it. Bush is deploying missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic.
This of course has made Russia nervous. They have responded by testing missiles meant to pierce the Bush/Knollenberg Missile Defense Project. Putin said "It wasn't us who initiated a new round of the arms race."
Yes. It seems that Bush and Knollenberg can do much worse than Iraq. And they have done it.

Bush & Knollenberg Ignore History
Too bad neither of them has enough curiousity to read a book -- or investigate before taking such a drastic action as going to war. And they wouldn't have had to look far to get a tremendous amount of information.
Daddy Bush and his cronies was smart enough to not try to take over Iraq. They predicted that taking over Iraq would be disasterous. Daddy Bush's cabinet had much better insight into the situation than Jr. and Joe Knollenberg.
Gen. NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF: On the question of going to Baghdad_ if you remember the Vietnam war, we had no international legitimacy for what we did. As
a result, we, first of all, lost the battle in world public opinion. Eventually,
we lost the battle at home.
In the Gulf war, we had great international legitimacy in the form of eight United Nations resolutions, every one of which said, "Kick Iraq out of Kuwait." Did not say one word about going into Iraq, taking Baghdad, conquering the whole country and- and hanging Saddam Hussein. That's point number one.
Point number two- had we gone on to Baghdad, I don't believe the French would have gone and I'm quite sure that the Arab coalition would not have gone. The coalition would have ruptured and the only people that would have gone would have been the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
And, oh, by the way, I think we'd still be there. We'd be like a dinosaur in a tar pit. We could not have gotten out and we'd still be the occupying power and we'd be paying 100 percent of all the costs to administer all of Iraq.
Even Dick Cheney said it would have been wrong to try to take over Iraq. Cheney said:
we'd have had to put another government in its place.
What kind of government? Should it be a Sunni government or Shi'i government or a Kurdish government or Ba'athist regime? Or maybe we want to bring in some of the Islamic fundamentalists? How long would we have had to stay in Baghdad to keep that government in place? What would happen to the government once U.S. forces withdrew? How many casualties should the United States accept in that effort to try to create clarity and stability in a situation that is inherently unstable?
I think it is vitally important for a President to know when to use military force. I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force. And it's my view that the President got it right both times, that it would have been a mistake for us to get bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq."
Yes. Cheney knew that invading Iraq would result in an endless war. Did Bush Jr. and Joe Knollenberg not know, not care, or not know what to do?
Even though the experts warned that it would result in an endless and bloody war, Joe Knollenberg has consistently voted to give George Bush a blank check on Iraq.
Joe Knollenberg's War In Iraq Has Failed.

160 Americans Killed

160 more U.S. Troops have died since Joe Knollenberg voted against a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.
160 more of our friends, neighbors, co-workers.
160 more mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers.
160 more sons and daughters.
160 more Americans have died since Joe Knollenberg voted against a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.
How many more have to die before Joe Knollenberg will actually do something to stop this slaughter?

We Said It Here First -- Knollenberg Will Continue to Support the Iraq War in September
Don't wait for September thinking that George Bush or Joe Knollenberg will finally realize they have been entirely incompetent in their handling of Iraq and that they have put US troops in the crossfire of a civil war.
No. We already know what is going to happen in September.
Officials told ABC's Martha Raddatz that the senior commanders in Iraq -- Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno and Gen. David Petraeus -- want the surge to continue until at least December and expect to report enough progress by September to justify the extension.
It won't matter what the "conditions on the ground" are in September, Bush has already decided that they will report that the escalation has been a success and that they need to continue it.
Then, just before the election in November 2008, they will announce that they are going to draw down troops. They will claim that they have been so successful that they can withdraw troops so the level will be ~130,000.They just hope you don't realize that ~130,000 is about the number of troops we had there before the troop surge. So, by the end of 2008, we will be where we were in the beginning of 2007. Except it will be 23 months later and there will be 1000's more dead Americans.
Joe Knollenberg is a rubber stamp for George Bush. Knollenberg does whatever Bush tells him to do. That of course will be his downfall in the next election. By supporting whatever Bush wants in terms of funds and troops, Knollenberg shares the blame for the utter failure in Iraq and for the death of American troops.

Knollenberg Accepts Over $2.7 Million From Lobbyists

Joe Knollenberg Has Received Over $2.7 Million from Lobbyists and Special Interest Groups!!
That Joe Knollenberg is a lobbyist's best friend goes without saying.
After all, his Chief of Staff is a Washington, D.C. lobbyist.
A quick glance at the FEC records for campaign finance reveal that Joe Knollenberg has received $ 2,742,346 from lobbyists and special interest groups.
Yes. You read that right. Joe Knollenberg took over $ 2,742,346 from lobbyists and special interests. The picture may be ginned up, but the numbers are not. And those are just the dollars reported from committees. That doesn't even count the donations he gets from each individual lobbyist!!!!
Joe Knollenberg has accepted over $2.7 million in campaign donations from lobbyists and special interests!!

Another Knollenberg Vote AGAINST Middle Class Families
Joe Knollenberg voted NO on HR 1252, the Federal Price Gouging Prevention Act. Thankfully the Act passed the House anyway. It imposes penalties for Price Gouging by Bil Oil companies.
Profits for Big Oil companies has been skyrocketing, while middle class families struggle to be able to afford to fill their tanks and still have enough to pay for other staples of life that have increased because of the increased fuel costs.
This wasn't a windfall profits tax. It was a consumer protection bill. It was timely at the federal level since Michigan's own Attorney General has been getting dozens of calls a day from citizens who think they have been gouged by their gas stations.
Instead, Joe Knollenberg Voted YES to Protect Big Oil and their slippery lobbyists.
Have you had enough of Joe?

Knollenberg Votes to Fund, Train, and Equip the Terrorists
That is a nice theory. But in reality, Joe Knollenberg is simply funding, training, and equipping the terrorists. Because the same guys that our troops are training and equipping during the day, are turning around at night and planting roadside bombs to kill U.S. troops!
The NYT reports:
They had seen shadowy militia commanders installed as Iraqi Army officers, they said, had come under increasing attack from roadside bombs — planted within sight of Iraqi Army checkpoints — and had fought against Iraqi soldiers whom they thought were their allies.
But these "militia" guys -- these Shite militia guys -- are the ones we are training to be Iraqi Army. And they are shooting at and bombing our guys.
Meanwhile, the Sunni insurgents are killing U.S. troops because our troops are supporting the Shite.
So all Knollenberg has done is put the U.S. troops in the crossfire between the Sunni and the Shite.
Our troops are being slaughtered and as long as Congressmen like Joe Knollenberg keep throwing billions and billions of dollars at the problem, it will go on forever.

Once Again, Knollenberg Votes to Give Bush a Blank Check For Iraq

Once again, Joe Knollenberg voted to give George Bush a blank check on his war in Iraq. [HR 2206, Rollcall vote # 425, May 24, 2007]
Using basic logic:
* Joe Knollenberg is funding this losing war effort.
* If you buy it, you own it.
* So, Joe Knollenberg owns the debacle in Iraq.
* If you own it, you are responsible for it.

So, now Joe Knollenberg is responsible for what happens in Iraq.
This is now the Bush/Knollenberg War in Iraq.
Unfortunately for Joe Knollenberg, the public is even more against the war and him than ever before.
A recent poll says:
* 61% of voters say the U.S. should not have invaded Iraq in the first place.
* 76% think things are going badly there.
* 63% disapprove of how George Bush is doing his job.
* 72% think the Country is on the Wrong Track.
* 76% think that the "surge" is either having no impact or is making things worse
* 69% think that funding for the war should be tied to benchmarks that the Iraqis have to meet
That 72% of Americans who think the Country is on the wrong track is the highest that has ever been. It had been running in the upper 60 percentile earlier. That 72% is the highest it has been since that question has been the subject of a poll -- for nearly 25 years.
Only 15% agree with George Bush & Joe Knollenberg that there should be no conditions on war funding.
Tying himself so closely to George Bush that his actions are indistinguishable will not help Joe Knollenberg in 2008.
In fact, although Bush's ratings have been low for years, they have hit new all time lows lately. According to the NYT:
As for Mr. Bush, 23 percent approve of his handling of the situation in Iraq, while 72 percent disapprove; 25 percent approve of his handling of foreign policy, while 66 percent disapprove; and 27 percent approve of his handling of immigration issues, while 60 percent disapprove.
On the economy, 38 percent approve of Mr. Bush’s handling of the issue, and on the campaign against terrorism, 40 percent approve, matching his career low on the issue.
The 85% of us who disagree with Joe Knollenberg and George Bush will remember this in 2008.
Bye bye Joe. Not gonna be sorry to see you go.
To Stop the Bush/Knollenberg War, Bush & Knollenberg Have to Go.

Joe Knollenberg on Impeachment of the President
In my opinion there is no doubt, however, that the President's conduct rises to the level of impeachable offenses. To protect his political livelihood, this President has subverted the rule of law, lied to the American people, and manipulated his staff and members of his cabinet to perpetuate his lies. These crimes are felonies that deserve the most severe penalty provided by the Constitution.
Moreover, recent events have brought into the question the President's ability to lead. I have come to the conclusion that [the President] does not possess the character or the judgment to occupy the highest office in the land. This president has violated his oath of office, betrayed the trust of the American people, and demeaned the institution of the presidency. I implore my colleagues to vote for the impeachment. . .
Oh, wait. This is what Joe said about Clinton.
Funny how Joe Knollenberg has nothing to say about George Bush lying to the American people, subverting the rule of law, manipulating his staff to perpetrate his lies, etc.
Joe Knollenberg is nothing but a partisan hack. A mouthpiece for lobbyists.
Knollenberg is a puppet for George Bush & Dick Cheney.

Joe Knollenberg Protects Bush, But Not US
This disaster has harmed our military by decreasing their readiness, drained our treasury, and destroyed the lives of thousands of American troops and their families.
But Joe Knollenberg just continues to vote for George Bush.
In this 60 second clip, General Wesley Clark discusses how the Iraq war has harmed our military.
I can't wait until we start running these ads against Joe Knollenberg.
"Do Nothing" Knollenberg's Admission That He Hasn't Accomplished Anything in 14 Years
I'm not going to post the link, you can find it yourself.
Now google absolutely any other Member of Congress.
Notice the difference?
Even a glance at every single other member of Congress' website will give you at least a glimpse of what is going on in Congress. Democrats and Republicans alike. Those that keep their sites updated, actually tell you what Congress has done in the last week. Some tell you what happened in Congress today or yesterday.
QUESTION: What does "Do Nothing" Knollenberg's website discuss?
ANSWER: Other people's accomplishments. He talks about sports teams and other organizations that do things. Even he can't come up with anything of significance that he has done.
Joe Knollenberg Hasn't Accomplished Anything in 14 Years.
Oakland County Can't Afford Joe Knollenberg.

Will Knollenberg Give Bush Another Blank Check on Iraq?
We'll find out soon enough.
Meanwhile, 97 more Americans have died since Joe Knollenberg voted NO on a timetable for withdrawing American Troops.
"DO NOTHING" Knollenberg Continues to Live Up To His Name

Joe "Do Nothing" Knollenberg continues to live up to his nickname -- by doing nothing.
Knollenberg's record in Congress has been abysmal. He has not introduced a single major piece of legislation to help Michigan families or the auto industry.
After 14 years in Congress, he has no accomplishments to show for it. Rather we have had no benefit from having him there. In fact, arguably we benefit when he fails to show up for votes.
Now "DO NOTHING" Knollenberg is worried that we have figured out how little he has accomplished.
He has hired a Washington D.C. lobbyist to run his campaign.
His lobbyist writes up little news releases and editorials and they get published under "Do Nothing" Knollenberg's name.
Joe Knollenberg works for the Lobbyists, not us.
Joe Knollenberg is too extreme for Oakland County.
Oh Look. We're Standing Up as They are Standing Down
But as Joe Knollenberg supports adding more and more U.S. troops, the Brits are withdrawing their troops. The UK had 7100 troops at the beginning of the year and they are drawing down to 5500 right now.
So, we're standing up while they are standing down.
Now what Joe? Should we just keep adding more and more US troops to the crossfire in Baghdad?
How much death and destruction do we have to suffer before enough is enough.

88 More American Troops Killed

88 more U.S. Troops have died since Joe Knollenberg voted against a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.
88 more of our friends, neighbors, co-workers.
88 more mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers.
88 more sons and daughters.
88 more Americans have died since Joe Knollenberg voted against a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.
How many more have to die before Joe Knollenberg will actually do something to stop this slaughter?
75 More American Troops Killed

75 more U.S. Troops have died since Joe Knollenberg voted against a timetable to withdraw from Iraq.
75 more of our friends, neighbors, co-workers.

146 non-military Americans Killed In Iraq

The NYT reports that the first 3 months of 2007 were the bloodiest in Iraq for civilian contractors working with our troops in Iraq.
There have been 917 of these non-military Americans killed in Iraq.
That means we are approaching 3,500 American deaths in Iraq.
And for what?
To create a failed state?
To fan the flames of a civil war that had been civil up until Bush and Knollenberg decided to invade Iraq?

Vote No on JOE!
Knollenberg Votes NO on Pay raise for Troops

Joe Knollenberg says he "supports the troops".
We can expect to see ads for his next campaign on how he "supports the troops".
Joe Knollenberg says he "supports the troops", but his voting record says otherwise.
Joe Knollenberg consistently votes AGAINST our troops.
Knollenberg thinks he should make nearly $170,000/yr (plus a full pension and free health care for life), but he voted against giving the troops a 3.5% pay raise. [HR 2207, Rollcall 336, 5/10/07]
Why does Joe Knollenberg say he supports the troops and then votes against them every single time?

Joe, here's a show you ought to watch 5/18
Here's another report about the movie Who Killed the Electric Car?
5.18.07
Miles to Go (Why can't America's car companies build a 100 mpg car)
Many of the cars now on America's roads get no better gas mileage than the ones we were driving twenty years ago. Meanwhile, other country's cars are leaving ours in the dust in terms of fuel efficiency. How did this happen, and what are American auto manufacturers doing about it?A former auto industry engineer and NOW correspondent Jonathan Silvers goes under the hood of the U.S. car industry to look at what's being called a colossal failure of American engineering. Does Detroit have a secret weapon waiting in the wings?

Knollenberg Can't Even Protect a Dog, How Can You Trust Him to Protect You?
Every day the taineted pet food scandal expands into including more and more brands of pet food, and now, FDA is looking into how the poisoned product from China has gotten into the human food supply. They know for example that chickens ate the tainted food and those chickens have been sold for human consumption.
But Joe Knollenberg Has Done Nothing About the Problem.
If Joe Knollenberg does nothing about poisoned pet food, what makes you think he could/would do anything about:
- high mercury levels in canned tuna
- dangerous levels of steroids and antibiotics in meat and dairy products
- poisoned wheat and rice gluten from China
- hazardous materials in household products
- contaminants in your air or water supply
- transmission of contagious diseases such as bird or pig flu
If the government can't even figure out how to guarantee that we have adequate supplies of influenza vaccines every year, how can they possibly be trusted to protect us from anything else?
Yet, once again, Joe Knollenberg has failed to do anything about these problems. Once again, he doesn't even mention them on his website.
Joe "DO NOTHING" Knollenberg
Is Not Serving the Interests
of the People of Oakland County.
Joe holds "Townhall"
It would be nice if Joe held a real townhall where the public was notified in advance. But we know Joe isn't brave enought to invite ALL his constituents, only the ones that agree with him. Another Republican coward.
Townhall Meeting Report
by Rep. Knollenberg
May 15th, 2007
Tonight I held my very first Teletown Hall meeting with my constituents in the 9th District. Utlizing the most modern technology, my office phoned 35,000 households in Oakland County to ask them to participate in a Q&A session with me from the comfort of their homes. More than 6,500 people participated at some juncture during the 1 hour townhall meeting. At one point, there were nearly a thousand participants on the call. This was a great opportunity for me to share my views on the major issues I’ve been working on in Congress. I discussed my efforts to promote alternative fuel research, wellness in the workplace, and scholarships for math, science, engineering, and health education. I took questions on Iraq.
Several of my constituents asked very good questions about the economic troubles in Michigan and what we can and need to do to promote small businesses and keep manufacturing strong in our state. There were questions on combating illegal immigration and declining home values in Michigan. All in all … I thought it was a great event and I am grateful for the time my constituents spent asking questions. I look forward to hosting more of these modern townhall meetings in the future.
I would have liked to have asked Joe a question. How about you? I'd also like to know which constituents were invited and from what list and whether government funds were used to make the calls and for the cost of the call itself and whether any press was on the call. Maybe I'll file a Freedom of Information Request and maybe Joe's office will answer those questions.

Are You Listening Joe?
Bush's escalation is only increasing the slaughter of our troops who have been placed in the crossfire of a civil war between two fanatical religious sects.
George Bush's failed plan has decimated our military, created more terrorists than there were before, and overall made America less safe.
Joe Knollenberg has given unconditional support to Bush's escalation of war in Iraq.
What will it take to make Joe Knollenberg listen?

When is Enough going to be Enough, JOE?
How many more U.S. troops have to die before Joe Knollenberg will wake up and realize that our troops need to be redeployed -- that they are just being slaughtered in the crossfire of a religious civil war that has been brewing for hundreds of years?
BUSH & KNOLLENBERG?
People are Dying for Knollenberg's Vote

People are dying by the dozens for Joe Knollenberg's vote.
But Joe Knollenberg is ignoring the death and destruction. He is too busy going to Tiger baseball games and watching the Pistons playoffs.
Here are some of the events in Iraq today:
- Truck Bomb Kills 50 in Northern Iraq
- 115 Hurt in Attack Near Office of Top Kurdish Party
- 17 Dead & 46 Wounded in Blast in Baghdad Market
- 2 More U.S. Troops Killed Today
- At Least 126 Killed or Found Dead in Iraq Today
Today, Mother's Day here in the U.S., has been one of the most violent days Iraq has seen. The Mothers of the 2 U.S. troops killed today are not watching the Tigers or the Pistons or any other team. Their grief is unimaginable.
But Joe Knollenberg doesn't even care about those grieving mothers, or wifes, or sisters, or daughters. He doesn't even mention "Iraq" as an issue on his website. Nope.
Joe Knollenberg is ignoring the disaster in Iraq and just hoping it goes away. Come 2008 we'll all be able to ignore him and he will go away.
Tell us something we don't know, Joe

When Joe was in the majority he did virtually nothing to help the manufacturing sector in Michigan, and god knows we could have used the help. The Big 3 has been virtually ignored by this White House and all Joe has done is stand by and watched.
Now that he's in the minority, Joe wants to try to ignore the fact that he's a Republican, the party that has caused more manufacturing to go to foreign countries for cheap labor than at any time in history. That's why in 2008 Joe will be history and a Democrat who really cares about middle class Americans will be elected in the 9th Congressional district of Michigan.

This is why oversight is so important, Joe
It's shameful that this Congress has allowed for private contractors to make in a month what an active duty soldier, performing under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, makes in a year.
Yet Joe Knollenberg continues to vote to keep funding not only this unjust, unwinnable civil war, he actually thinks that the terrorists are worse than the Bush administration. As this video shows, this administration is every bit as dangerous to America as the terrorists.

U.S. Troops Are Dying for Knollenberg's Vote

On April 25, 2007, Joe Knollenberg had the chance to vote for legislation that would have provided for a timeframe for a phased and strategic withdrawal of U.S. Troops from the crossfire of Iraq's Civil War.

before Joe Knollenberg will vote to bring home our troops?
